Core of the Area Service Committee Structure

The Contra Costa Area Service Committee (CCASC or ASC) is the organizational structure that provides NA services to the local community and the groups of the Contra Costa Area fellowship. These once a month meetings provide a means in which representative members from each group called Group Service Representatives (GSRs) can gather together with subcommittees from the Area and conduct the business of the NA groups.

This webpage provides information on the monthly service meetings of the Contra Costa Area Service Committees including contact telephone numbers through our phone line and email contact address's where those addresses have been established. It also includes a brief description of each committee's purpose within the fellowship and the community.

Dances, picnics, campouts, special speaker meetings—these events are put on by area activities subcommittees. Activities like these can provide a greater sense of community for the local NA Fellowship.

It takes a number of volunteers to put on these activities so if you can help organize, take tickets, cook, set up, clean up or just show up we have a position where you can help make things happen.

This committee develops and maintains a suitable location for the monthly CCASC meeting. Volunteers work as liaison to the local facility, set up before each ASC meeting and break down the office equipment supporting the meeting at its conclusion.

H&I subcommittee conducts volunteer panels that carry the NA message to addicts who often have no other way of hearing our message. Panels are conducted for patients at addiction treatment centers, mental health facilities, and therapeutic communities and for inmates at jails, prisons, and forensic hospitals.

The Literature subcommittee maintains a stock of NA books and pamphlets that can be purchased by local groups at the monthly ASC meeting. In some areas, this subcommittee may consist of only one or two people. In other areas, it may involve as many as half a dozen members who process group orders, monitor stock levels, and reorder materials from the local NA office or the World Service Office.

A person new to Narcotics Anonymous is what this committee is all about. "Newcomers" have the opportunity today to attend workshops that will give them an accelerated understanding of what NA is all about and how to navigate their way around the recovery process in our fellowship. Volunteers for this committee have the opportunity to share their experience with newcomers in an intimate presentation, question and answer workshop format.

Narcotics Anonymous Youth Committee is the banner under which the youth of our fellowship perform service by developing and organizing activities that support and encourage the youth in recovery. Volunteers for this committee are not limited in age or experience, all are welcome regardless of age.

The general mission of your area Public Relations subcommittee is to inform
addicts and others in the community of the availability of recovery in Narcotics
Anonymous. Services provided by our PR subcommittee include: presentations to non recovery based organizations, Schools Presentation Project, Helpline Volunteers, Meeting schedule production, monthly mail outs to facilities and other organizations and NAWS meeting update.

To schedule a workshop for your group or local area please have your Group Service Representative contact the Service Workshop Chairperson to schedule a time, place or business meeting for a workshop.

Service workshops provide an internal resource for members of the fellowship by providing information on how to be an effective volunteer at group, committee and Area levels. Workshops can be tailored to fit the requesting audience.

One day each year this committee puts on a fellowship unifying event called Unity Day. This event is a culmination of one years work towards fund raising, organizing speakers, workshops, selling tickets, preparing menus etc. It takes a number of volunteers with a variety of skills to make this event happen, get involved today.
